Florida Mixed Day-1: US$95k Unbridled's Song Filly

Thursday, 20th October 2011

In the US auction ring, Rustlewood Farm (George & Karen Russell) paid top price of US$95,000 for 3YO filly Great Venture (Unbridled’s Song-Rose Colored Lady, by Formal Dinner) during the opening Consignor Preferred session at the 2-day Ocala Breeders’ Sale Company’s Fall Mixed Sale in Florida. Great Venture (consigned by Glen Hill Farm) was sold in-foal to this year’s multiple Gr1-winning freshman stallion Scat Daddy (who has already produced 21 individual 1st-crop winners in 2011). Great Venture (whose dam Rose Colored Lady is a stakes-winner) is also a half-sister to Gr2-winner Too Much Bling & 3 other stakes-winners. The Russells founded their Ocala-based farm in 1987 & George Russell told bloodhorse.com: “We are taking advantage of the down market. We are trying to make big improvements to our broodmare band. We bought 5 mares at this sale last year & with our purchase today that brings us to 6 mares. Our primary focus is to upgrade. We are making a big advance now because of how the market is.”
