French Melb Cup Hope Dunaden Wins Geelong Cup

Thursday, 20th October 2011

French-bred & trained 6YO entire & prominent Melbourne Cup contender Dunaden (Nicobar-La Marlia, by Kaldounevees) finished powerfully from back in the field to score a 0.75-length victory in yesterday’s $225,000 Gr3 Geelong Cup (2400m) in Victoria. Top-weighted Dunaden (ridden by Craig Williams for trainer Mikel Delzangles) repeated last year’s Geelong Cup victory by subsequent Melbourne Cup-winning French raider Americain in defeating 2 fellow Melbourne Cup contenders, favoured 5YO gelding Tanby (Galileo-Dane Belltar, by Danewin) & fast-finishing 9YO gelding Bauer (Halling-Dali's Grey, by Linamix). Dunaden took his record to 7 wins (also including April’s French Gr3 Prix De Barbeville over 3100m at Longchamp & 2010’s French Listed Prix Du Grand Camp over 2400m at Lyon-Parilly) & 13 placings (including May’s French Gr2 Prix Vicomtesse Vigier over 3100m at Longchamp & February’s French Listed Grand Prix Du Conseil General Des Alpes Maritimes over 2500m at Cagnes-sur-Mer, plus 2010’s French Listed Prix Max Sicard over 2400m at Toulouse) from 27 starts for $508,633 earnings.
