Americain Wins Drake International Cup

Last year’s Gr1 Melbourne Cup-winning US-bred, French-trained & Australian-owned 7YO entire Americain (Dynaformer-America, by Arazi) made his 1st appearance in Australia since returning from Europe for another tilt at this year’s Melbourne Cup & duly raced away in the final 200m for a 2.5-lengths victory in the $250,000 Gr2 Drake International Cup (2500m) for 4YOs & up at Moonee Valley. Top-weighted favourite Americain (ridden by Gerald Mosse for trainer Anain de Royer-Dupre) defeated 5YO gelding Tullamore (Savabeel-Trocair, by Flying Spur) & 6YO entire Illo (Tertullian-Iora, by Koenigsstuhl). Americain took his record to 10 wins (also including August’s French Listed Prix De Reux over 2500m at Deauville, plus 2010’s Gr1 Melbourne Cup over 3200m at Flemington & Gr3 Geelong Cup over 2406m, as well as France’s Gr2 Prix Kergorlay over 3000m at Deauville & Gr2 Prix Du Carrousel over 3000m at Deauville, in addition to 2009's Gr2 Prix Vicomtesse Vigier over 3100m at Longchamp & 2008's Listed Prix De L'Avre over 2400m at Longchamp) & 6 placings (including 2010’s Hong Kong Gr1 International Vase over 2400m at Sha Tin & 2009's French Listed Prix Right Royal over 3100m at Maisons-Laffitte, plus 2008's French Gr3 Prix De Lutece over 3000m at Longchamp & Listed Prix Michel Houyvet over 3000m at Deauville, as well as 2007's French Listed Criterium Du Fonds Europeen De L'Elevage over 1600m at Deauville) from 26 starts for $4,857,677 earnings.
