Aust-Bred Silver City Wins NZ Wellesley Stakes

Monday, 24th October 2011

Queensland's Willowbend Stud-based US turf Gr1-winning freshman stallion Nothing To Lose (Sky Classic-Cherlindrea, by Clever Trick) recorded his 1st stakes-winner when unbeaten Australian-bred gelding Silver City (Nothing To Lose-She's Just Dreamy, by Aucash) scored by a short-neck in the NZ$45,000 Listed Wellesley Stakes (1000m) for 2YOs at Trentham. Favourite Silver City (ridden by Samantha Spratt for trainer Stephen McKee) defeated the filly Seleno (Thorn Park-Marasie, by Stark South) & fellow gelding Sweet As Wilson (Scaredee Cat-Demerara, by Danasinga). Silver City (a $14,000 weanling at the 2010 Magic Millions National Sale & subsequently a NZ$58,000 yearling at the 2011 NZB Select Sale at Karaka) now has 2 wins from 2 starts for NZ$31,750 earnings. His sire Nothing To Lose is standing the current Australian breeding season at Willowbend for $7,700.
