Bragato Wins NZ Thompson Stakes

Grangewilliam Stud sire Brilliance (Thunder Gulch-La Gueriere, by Lord At War) added a NZ group success when 7YO gelding Bragato (Brilliance-Yarra Rose, by One Pound Sterling) scored a 4.5-lengths victory in the NZ$70,000 Gr3 Rich Hill Stud Thompson Handicap (1600m) at Trentham. Bragato (ridden by Matthew Cameron for trainer Richard Joostens) defeated 5YO mare No Excuse Maggie (No Excuse Needed-Maggie O'Reilly, by O'Reilly) & favoured 5YO gelding Justanexcuse  (No Excuse Needed-Aggressive, by Val Dansant). Bragato (passed-in for NZ$3,000 on a NZ$4,000 reserve when consigned by Grangewilliam Stud at the 2006 NZ Bloodstock Festival Yearling Sale at Karaka) now has 8 wins (also including June’s Listed AG Challenge Stakes over 1600m at Wanganui) & 10 placings from 47 starts for NZ$158,835 earnings.
