Burgundy Wins NZ Canterbury Stakes

Monday, 24th October 2011

Flagship Arrowfield Stud stallion & former Australian Champion Sire Redoute’s Choice (Danehill-Shantha's Choice, by Canny Lad) added a NZ black-type success (& 80th individual stakes-winner world-wide) when unbeaten colt Burgundy (Redoute's Choice-Grand Echezeaux, by Zabeel) scored a 1.75-lengths victory in yesterday’s NZ$45,000 Listed Canterbury Stakes (1600m) for 3YOs at Riccarton Park. Favourite Burgundy (ridden by Matthew Cameron for trainer Jason Bridgman) defeated the geldings Shuka (Bachelor Duke-Alabama Rose, by Cape Cross) & Bulwer Bay (Testa Rossa-Petite Oiseau, by Ladoni). Burgundy (a 3/4-brother to 5-time Gr1-winning & 5-time Gr1-placed stallion Darci Brahma) was a NZ$1.3 million yearling consigned by Pencarrow Stud at the 2010 NZ Bloodstock Premier Sale at Karaka & now boasts 3 wins from 3 starts for NZ$32,500 earnings.
