Orfevre Wins Japan Gr1 Kikuka Sho

In Japan yesterday, this year’s dual 2000 Guineas-Japanese Derby winning colt Orfevre (Stay Gold-Oriental Art, by Mejiro Mc Queen) became the 7th Triple Crown winner in JRA history with a 2.5-lengths victory in the ¥233.36 million (A$3.069m) Gr1 Kikuka Sho-Japanese St Leger (3000m) for 3YOs at Kyoto. Orfevre (ridden by Kenichi Ikezoe for trainer Yasutoshi Ikee) defeated fellow colts Win Variation (Heart's Cry-Super Ballerina, by Storm Bird) & Tosen Ra (Deep Impact-Princess Olivia, by Lycius). Orfevre now has 6 wins (also including September’s Gr2 Kobe Shimbun Hai over 2400m at Hanshin, May’s Gr1 Tokyo Yushun-Japanese Derby over 2400m at Tokyo, April’s Gr1 Satsuki Sho02000 Guineas over 2000m at Tokyo & March’s Gr2 Sho Spring Stakes over 1800m at Hanshin) & 3 placings (including February’s Gr3 Kisaragi Sho over 1800m at Kyoto & January’s Gr3 Sho Shinzan Kinen over 1600m at Kyoto) from 10 starts for ¥615,954,000 (A$8.1m) earnings.
