Waratah's Secret Wins Prince Of Wales Stakes

Monday, 24th October 2011

WA's Mungrup Stud-based 4th-crop sire Oratorio (Stravinsky-Express A Smile, by Success Express) added a group success when favoured 5YO gelding Waratah's Secret (Oratorio-Blissfully, by Zabeel) scored by a long-head in the $125,000 Gr3 Prince Of Wales Stakes (1200m) at Ascot in Perth to claim this race for the 2nd successive year. Waratah’s Secret (whose Australian-bred sire Oratorio is not the Coolmore shuttler of the same name) was ridden by Paul Harvey for trainer David Harrison in defeating 6YO gelding Grand Nirvana (Scenic-Paradise Park, by Bletchley Park) & 8YO gelding King Kool Kat (King Cugat-Affaire En Or, by Dieu D'Or). Waratah's Secret (a $43,000 yearling consigned by Mungrup at the 2008 Magic Millions Perth Sale) now has 9 wins (also including 2010’s Gr3 A.J.Scahill Stakes over 1400m at Ascot & Gr3 Prince Of Wales Stakes over 1200m at Ascot, plus both 2009's Listed Fairetha Stakes over 1400m at Ascot & Listed Belgravia Stakes over 1200m at Ascot) & 6 runners-up (including his last 2 starts in the Listed Northerly Stakes over 1400m at Ascot on October 17 & Listed Birthday Stakes over 1200m at Belmont Park on October 1, plus 2010’s Gr3 Colonel Reeves Stakes over 1100m at Ascot) from 18 starts for $573,450 earnings.
