Tuesday, 25th October 2011

In New Zealand yesterday, Waikato Stud's Australian-bred stallion Pins (Snippets-No Finer, by Kaoru Star) added a group success when front-running colt Antonio Lombardo (Pins-Petit Verdot, by Carnegie) scored a 1-length victory in the NZ$70,000 Gr3 Sarten Memorial (1400m) for 3YOs at Te Rapa. Antonio Lombardo (ridden by Samantha Spratt for trainer Peter McKay) defeated favoured Australian-bred filly Anabandana (Anabaa-Great Notice, by Nureyev) & fellow filly Holy Moly (Holy Roman Emperor-Clarissa, by Zabeel). Antonio Lombardo (a NZ$120,000 yearling consigned by Trelawney Stud at the 2010 NZ Bloodstock Premier Sale at Karaka) now has 6 wins (also including last start’s Gr2 Hawke’s Bay Guineas over 1400m at Hastings on October 1, September’s Listed Westbury Stud Northland Breeders Stakes over 1200m at Ruakaka & February’s Gr3 Waikato Stud Classic over 1200m at Pukekura, plus 2010's Listed Wellesley Stakes over 1000m at Trentham) & 3 runners-up (including April’s Gr1 The Oaks Stud Manawatu Sires Produce Stakes over 1400m at Awapuni & January’s Listed NZ Bloodstock Karaka Million over 1200m at Ellerslie) from 12 starts for NZ$415,315 earnings.
