UK Tatts HIT Day-1: $223k Glencadam Gold

Tuesday, 25th October 2011

McKeever Bloodstock’s Johnny McKeever (acting for Australian trainer Gai Waterhouse) paid 135,000 guineas (A$223,000) for dual-winning 3YO colt Glencadam Gold (Refuse To Bend-Sandrella, by Darshaan) consigned from trainer Sir Henry Cecil’s Warren Place Stables & offered with a Timeform rating of 101. Waterhouse’s assistant Bruce Slade commented: “This is Gai's first venture to the Tattersalls Autumn Horses-In-Training Sale, but European horses have done such a great job in Australia & she wishes to be part of that success too. These horses are well performed, lightly raced & the right sort for the Cup races. Gai has had New Zealand-bred horses before & they are produced in much the same way as European horses are. Her owners were quick to jump on board with this plan.” McKeever also paid 75,000 guineas (A$124,000) for 4YO gelding Julienas (Cape Cross-Dora Carrington, by Sri Pekan) for Waterhouse; that horse was consigned from trainer Walter Swinburn’s stable.
