Kentucky Yearlings Day-1: US$200k Medaglia D'Oro Colt

Wednesday, 26th October 2011

In the US auction ring, Virginia-based bloodstock agent Debbie Easter (acting for New York-based owner Peter Deutsch & “another gentleman”) paid top price of US$200,000 for a colt by multiple Gr1-winning shuttler Medaglia D'Oro (out of unraced Coronado's Quest mare Especially Me) during the opening session at the 3-day Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Fall Yearling Sale at Newtown Paddocks near Lexington. The colt (consigned by Craig & Holly Bandoroff’s Denali Stud as agent) previously sold for US$175,000 as a yearling at this year’s Keeneland January Sale & is a half-brother to winner Friends N Secret. The colt’s dam Especially Me is a half-sister to Gr3-winner Better Now & Easter told bloodhorse.com: “He’s a big colt with scope; he’s a lovely horse by what is arguably one of the best sires around. You always hope to get one for less, but I thought it was a good price. I’m tickled to have the horse. It was a nice deal.” She also noted Deutsch & his partner “are stepping it up. They both live in the New York area & they’re excited about what’s happening with New York racing. This colt will go to (trainer) Christophe Clement.”
