Americain To Stay In Aust After Melb Cup

Thursday, 27th October 2011

Champion French-trained stayer Americain “will continue to race on in Australia with a new trainer after his attempt to win a second successive $6 million Melbourne Cup at Flemington next Tuesday” reported the Daily Telegraph. Owner Gerry Ryan confirmed there was “interest from a couple of major studs keen to stand Americain when his racing days are over”. But Ryan said all negotiations have been put on hold until after the Melbourne Cup, noting: “We have got a couple of studs keen to talk to us. After the Cup, Americain's staying here, he will be an Australian - but let's get over Tuesday & see if we can get the double.” Ryan emphasised no decision had been made on the horse's new trainer “but hinted the 7YO stallion would not be based at a training facility in the city” adding: “The horse will have to go somewhere where it is very quiet. He can't go to Flemington where there are a lot of horses - that is not the best environment for him. We will work it out after Tuesday.” The newspaper commented: “It is likely Americain will be aimed at next year's Australian Cup at Flemington & The BMW at Rosehill Gardens, before being retired to stud next spring.”
