Melb Cup Vet Examinations Today & Tomorrow

Meanwhile Racing Victoria’s Equine Welfare & Veterinary Department will “oversee a veterinary inspection of the top 35 ranked entries in the Melbourne Cup” today & tomorrow. As a condition of final acceptance for the Cup at 5pm on Saturday, each horse “is required to have undergone an official RV veterinary inspection to determine its suitability to race”. RV Head of Equine Welfare & Veterinary Services Brian Stewart explained: “The objective of the examination is to ensure, as much as possible, that all horses participating in the Melbourne Cup are in a suitable condition to do so & that their performance will not be compromised by pre-existing injury, illness or degenerative conditions.” Horses that contest The Lexus Stakes & Mackinnon Stakes at Flemington on Saturday & intend to accept for the Cup “will be examined again on-course after they compete”.
