Thursday, 27th October 2011

In Australia, former shuttler & Gr1 English Derby winner Galileo (Sadler's Wells-Urban Sea, by Miswaki) added a black-type quinella (& 97th individual stakes-winner world-wide) when consistent 5YO gelded stayer Tanby (Galileo-Dane Belltar, by Danewin) scored a 1.75-lengths victory in yesterday’s $200,000 Listed Bendigo Cup (2400m) in Victoria. Tanby (ridden by Steven King for leviathan Melbourne owner Lloyd Williams’s private trainer Robert Hickmott) defeated top-weighted stable-mate & favoured 5YO entire At First Sight (Galileo-Healing Music, by Bering) & fellow 5YO gelding Western Symbol (High Chaparral-Blue Symbol, by Bluebird). Tanby (a $200,000 yearling consigned by Mill Park at the 2008 Inglis Easter Sale in Sydney) took his record to 7 wins & 6 placings (including both this month’s Gr3 Geelong Cup over 2400m on October 19 & Gr2 Herbert Power Stakes over 2400m at Caulfield on October 8, plus August’s Listed National Jockeys Celebration Day Stakes over 1700m at Caulfield) from 15 starts for $346,955 earnings.
