US Gr1 Star Tizway Retired To Spendthrift Farm

Trainer Jim Bond announced 6YO stallion Tizway (Tiznow-Bethany, by Dayjur) who notched successive US Gr1 triumphs in May’s Gr1 Metropolitan Handicap (8 furlongs) at Belmont Park & August’s Gr1 Whitney Invitational Handicap (9 furlongs) at Saratoga to line up as “one of the top contenders for the upcoming Gr1 Breeders’ Cup Classic, will miss the race with a ligament injury & has been retired” to B. Wayne Hughes’s Spendthrift Farm, reported bloodhorse.com. Tizway (a $US$140,000 yearling at the 2006 Keeneland September Sale) retires with 7 wins (also including 2010’s Gr3 Kelso Handicap over 8 furlongs at Belmont Park) & 6 placings (including April’s Listed Charles Town Classic Stakes over 9 furlongs at Charles Town & March’s Gr2 Gulfstream Park Handicap over 8 furlongs at Gulfstream Park, plus 2010’s Gr1 Metropolitan Handicap over 8 furlongs at Belmont Park & 2009’s Gr1 Jockey Club Gold Cup over 10 furlongs at Belmont Park) from 20 starts for US$1,359,274 earnings.
