Kentucky Yearlings Day-3: US$380k Medaglia D'Oro Colt

Friday, 28th October 2011

In the US auction ring, Adena Springs South general manager Mark Roberts out-bid Canadian-based trainer Mark Casse to pay top price of US$380,000 for a colt by multiple Gr1-winning shuttler Medaglia d’Oro (out of winning Diesis mare Catumbella) during the closing session at the 3-day Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Fall Yearling Sale at Newtown Paddocks near Lexington. The colt (consigned by Mill Ridge Sales as agent) is a half-brother to US Gr1-winner Honor In War (also a Gr2-winner in Australia) & Roberts told bloodhorse.com: “We just thought he was a really nice colt. He’s a half-brother to a Gr1-winner & has a great, great family. Frank (Stronach, Adena Springs principal) has had some success out of that family before. He just was a big strong colt & we really liked him a lot. He brought maybe a touch higher than what we first thought he would, but it wasn’t much more.”
