Tanby 1kg Melb Cup Penalty For Bendigo Cup Win

Friday, 28th October 2011

Racing Victoria’s chief handicapper Greg Carpenter announced a 1kg weight penalty for nest Tuesday’s Gr1 Melbourne Cup to 5YO gelding Tanby (Galileo-Dane Belltar, by Danewin) following his victory in Wednesday’s Listed Bendigo Cup (2400m). The penalty sees the Robert Hickmott-trained & Lloyd Williams-owned Tanby rise to 51kg & move to 32nd in the Melbourne Cup Order-Of-Entry. Carpenter commented: “Tanby came away for an impressive win over his highly credentialed stable-mate At First Sight to record his 1st black type win in the Bendigo Cup & the penalty acknowledges his emerging form since the weights were originally released. Prior to his win in the Bendigo Cup, Tanby had finished 2nd to Shewan in the Gr2 Herbert Power Stakes at Caulfield & 2nd to French visitor Dunaden in the Gr3 Geelong Cup which shows he’s a progressive in-form stayer.”
