Shamardal Adds Canada Black-Type

Monday, 31st October 2011

In Canada, European champion 4-time Gr1-winning former shuttler Shamardal (Giant's Causeway-Helsinki, by Machiavellian) added a black-type success when Irish-bred 4YO mare Oregon Lady (Shamardal-Oregon Trail, by Gone West) scored a 4.25-lengths victory in the C$106,000 Listed River Memories Stakes (8 furlongs on turf) for fillies & mares at Woodbine in Toronto. Oregon Lady (ridden by Pat Husbands for trainer Roger Attfield) defeated fellow 4YO mare Moment Of Majesty (Saint Liam-Lady Indy, by A.P.Indy) & US-bred 5YO mare Magic Broomstick (More Than Ready-Special Brush, by Broad Brush). Oregon Lady was originally a 44,000 guineas (A$73,000) weanling at the 2007 UK Tattersalls December Sale & subsequently a €100,000 (A$135,000) yearling at Ireland’s 2008 Goffs Millions Sale. Overall she now has 4 wins & 3 runners-up (including September’s Listed Flaming Page Stakes over 12 furlongs at Woodbine) from 11 starts for C$205,418 earnings.
