Kentucky Mixed: US$1.4m Cat Dancer 82

Tuesday, 8th November 2011

John Moynihan (who signed the ticket in the name of Barbara Banke’s Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings) paid US$1.4 million for winning 9YO mare Cat Dancer (Storm Cat-Foppy Dancer, by Fappiano) dam of 2011 Gr1 Del Mar Futurity winner Drill. Cat Dancer (consigned by Hill n Dale Sales Agency) was offered in-foal to Tiznow & Moynihan told bloodhorse.com: “We really loved her. We tried to buy this mare when she was a baby & she brought a lot of money then (US$300,000 Keeneland September yearling) & since then she’s had a Gr1-winner.” Cat Dancer is a full-sister to Gr2-winner Magic Storm & is also from the female family of Gr1 Belmont Stakes & US 3YO champion Chateaugay, plus Champion Older Mare Primonetta. Moynihan added: “She’s beautiful & she has the ability to produce gorgeous foals. Her 1st foal (now 3YO Medaglia d'Oro filly Javanese) I think brought US$1.5 million. Drill was also a beautiful foal. She’s a young mare & she’s already produced a Gr1-winner by Storm Cat, that’s hard to find.”
