Tuesday, 10th April 2012

In Japan, Northern Racing-bred Gentildonna (Deep Impact-Donna Blini, by Bertolini) scored a half-length victory in the ¥207.9 million (A$2.351m) Gr1 Oka Sho-1000 Guineas (1600m) for 3YO fillies at Hanshin. Gentildonna (ridden by Yasunari Iwata for trainer Sei Ishizaka) defeated Verxina (Deep Impact-Halwa Sweet, by Machiavellian) & I'm Yours (Falbrav-Cecile Blues, by El Condor Pasa). Gentildonna is the 2nd foal out of Donna Blini, won 2005's UK Gr1 Cheveley Park Stakes & UK Gr2 Cherry Hinton Stakes, before being purchased by Katsumi Yoshida's Northern Farm at the 2006 UK Tattersalls December Mare Sale for 500,000 guineas (A$775,000). Gentildonna took her record to 3 wins (also including January's Gr3 Sho Shinzan Kinen over 1600m at Kyoto) & a runner-up from 5 starts for ¥166.802 million (A$1.887m) earnings.
