English Derby Winner Pour Moi To NZ Windsor Park
In New Zealand, Windsor Park Stud announced last year's Gr1 English Derby-winning 4YO stallion Pour Moi (Montjeu-Gwynn, by Darshaan) will join its roster for the 2012 breeding season & stand at NZ$18,000+GST. On the track, Pour Moi recorded 3 wins (including 2011's Gr1 English derby over 12 furlongs at Epsom Downs & French Gr2 Prix Greffulhe over 2000m at Saint-Cloud) & a placing (in 2011's French Gr3 Prix La Force over 2100m at Longchamp) from 5 starts for £798,893 (A$1.198m) earnings. Pour Moi's Derby performance in winning the English Derby drew superlatives from those who witnessed it, as he was still well behind the leaders approaching the final furlong; however his trademark powerful finish propelled him past subsequent Irish Derby winner Treasure Beach to win the blue riband event. Windsor Park proprietor Nelson Schick enthused: "His Derby effort clinched it for us. While his form leading into Epsom was impressive, his performance to win in that company, in that manner, demonstrates a level of talent that is rarely seen."
