Sydney Autumn Carnival Aims For "Destination Week"
Racing NSW chairman John Messara also told The Daily Telegraph that Racing NSW & the Australian Turf Club "are looking to improve Sydney's autumn race programming for the 2014 carnival". Messara explained: "I want to see a destination week for Sydney racing in Autumn. I hope visitors from interstate, Asia & other places feel they can't afford to miss our carnival. They do a wonderful job in Victoria with Melbourne Cup Week & we want to claim the Autumn with a similar concept. I can see this becoming something very major happening for Sydney racing. It will be a great draw for tourism. It will involve 2 super Saturdays, with perhaps the (yearling) sales sandwiched in between. We are looking at a number of alternatives, but nothing is settled on yet. We can't afford to make a mistake with this."
