Lonhro's G1-Winning Son Benfica Joins Darley Roster

Monday, 23rd April 2012

Darley's nominations manager in Australia Alastair Pulford announced Gr1-winning 3YO colt Benfica (Lonhro-Hut, by Danehill) has been retired to stud & will will stand alongside his sire Lonhro (last season's Australian Champion Sire, former Australian Racehorse-Of-The-Year & 11-time Gr1-winning World Champion Miler) at Darley Kelvinside in NSW at a fee of $11,000. Benfica became Lonhro's first Gr1-winning juvenile when he won 2011's Gr1 Patinack Farm T.J.Smith Stakes (1600m) at Eagle Farm in Brisbane. Overall Benfica recorded 3 wins (also including 2011's Listed Hampden Stakes over 1200m at Doomben) & 1 placing from 9 starts for $467,150 earnings. Pulford commented: "Benfica is an exciting prospect for breeders. He is an exceptional mover, a Gr1-winning juvenile & he's a son of Australia's Champion sire."
