NZ Gr1 Stars & Trainer Duncan Moving To Queensland
NZ dual Gr1-winning 4YO mare Say No More (Pentire-Our Lucy, by Walking Ring) "has run her last race in New Zealand & will relocate to Australia when trainer Paul Duncan makes a permanent move to Queensland next month" reported theinformant.co.nz. Duncan confirmed: "I'm going in mid-June & will be based at Caloundra on the Sunshine Coast. It's a new challenge & I want to give it a go." Duncan (whose announcement follows fellow Kiwi trainer Paul Jenkins's decision to also shift to Caloundra) noted: "Both the good mares Say No More & Midnight Oil will be going (with me) & perhaps a few of the maidens as well – I'm still not sure of the exact numbers." Emerging star Say No More notched her 2nd Gr1 triumph this year (& 4th victory from her past 5 starts) when she won last month's weight-for-age Gr1 Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes (1600m) at Te Aroha to take her record to 6 wins (also including January's Gr1 Thorndon Mile over 1600m at Trentham) & 3 runners-up from 11 starts. Duncan added: "She went straight to the spelling paddock after that & we'll decide a bit later what we do with her in Australia." Meanwhile stable-mate & fellow Gr1-winning 4YO mare Midnight Oil (Keeper-Gilded Light, by Gilded Time) has not raced since she won 2011's Gr1 New Zealand Oaks (2400m) at Trentham 14 months ago "after which she underwent surgery to remove a bone chip. She returned to work following a long spell, but a splint further disrupted her progress." Duncan advised: "She's as good as gold now & not too far from speeding up in her work. She could possibly have a trial before she goes to Australia." Midnight Oil boasts 4 wins (also including 2011's Gr3 Lowland Stakes over 2100m at Hastings ) from 8 starts.
