Red Cadeaux 2012 Campaign Begins With 2nd In UK Track Record

Thursday, 3rd May 2012

In the UK overnight, 6YO gelding Red Cadeaux (Cadeaux Genereux-Artisia, by Peintre Celebre) who finished runner-up by a nose (behind Dunaden) in last year's Gr1 Melbourne Cup returned to the track to begin his 2012 campaign with a 1.5-lengths 2nd-placing in track record time in the Gr3 Sagaro Stakes (2 miles on all-weather) for 4YOs & up at Kempton Park. Red Cadeaux (ridden by Ryan Moore for trainer Ed Dunlop) finished strongly behind Godolphin's French-bred 4YO gelding Colour Vision (Rainbow Quest-Give Me Five, by Monsun) in 3min 21.5sec (smashing the previous record by nearly 3 seconds) with 9-lengths back to the 3rd horse. After the race, Dunlop told racingpost.com: "I'm very happy. It was a good comeback from a horse who wasn't wound up. He'll drop back to a mile & six (14 furlongs) for the Yorkshire Cup & all being well he'll go back for the Melbourne Cup."
