Camelot Wins UK Gr1 2000 Guineas

Monday, 7th May 2012

In the UK, recently-deceased dual-Derby winning Coolmore stallion & former NZ Windsor Park shuttler Montjeu (Sadler's Wells-Floripedes, by Top Ville) added a Gr1 triumph when Derrick Smith's unbeaten colt Camelot (Montjeu-Tarfah, by Kingmambo) returned from a 6.5-months spell to maintain his perfect record with victory by a neck in the £376,500 (A$565,000) Gr1 2000 Guineas (8 furlongs) for 3YOs at Newmarket. Favourite Camelot (ridden by Joseph O'Brien for trainer Aidan O'Brien) defeated French-bred colt French Fifteen (Turtle Bowl-Spring Morning, by Ashkalani) & Irish-bred colt Hermival (Dubawi-Bibi Karam, by Persian Bold). Camelot was a 525,000 guineas (A$814,000) yearling at the 2010 UK Tattersalls October Sale. He now has 3 wins (also including 2011's Gr1 Racing Post Trophy over 8 furlongs at Doncaster) from 3 starts for £355,192 (A$533,000) earnings.
