Homecoming Queen Wins UK Gr1 1000 Guineas

Monday, 7th May 2012

Also in the UK overnight, dual Gr1-winning former Coolmore shuttler Holy Roman Emperor (Danehill-L'On Vite, by Secretariat) added a Gr1 triumph when Ballydoyle's front-running Irish-bred daughter Homecoming Queen (Holy Roman Emperor-Lagrion, by Diesis) blitzed her rivals by 9-lengths in the £376,500 (A$565,000) Gr1 1000 Guineas (8 furlongs) for 3YO fillies at Newmarket. Homecoming Queen (ridden by Ryan Moore for trainer Aidan O'Brien) defeated Starscope (Selkirk-Moon Goddess, by Rainbow Quest) & the winner's fellow Irish-bred & favoured stable-mate Maybe (Galileo-Sumora, by Danehill). Homecoming Queen (a 3/4-sister to former European Horse-Of-The-Year & 6-time Gr1-winning Coolmore shuttler Dylan Thomas) took her record to 4 wins (also including April's Irish Gr3 1000 Guineas Trial Stakes over 7 furlongs at Leopardstown & 2011's Irish Listed Lanwades & Staffordstown Studs Stakes over 9 furlongs at The Curragh) & 3 placings (including 2011's Irish Gr3 C.L.Weld Park Stakes over 7 furlongs at The Curragh) from 14 starts for £278,708 (A$418,000) earnings.
