UK Tatts 2YOs: $178k Shamardal Colt

Monday, 7th May 2012

In the UK auction ring, David Redvers paid top price of 115,000 guineas (A$178,000) for a colt by European champion 4-time Gr1-winning former Darley shuttler Shamardal (out of Pivotal mare Pivotal's Princess) during the re-introduced Guineas Breeze-Up section at the 1-day Tattersalls Guineas 2YO Breeze-Up & Horses-In-Training Sale at Newmarket. The colt was consigned by Ireland's Mocklershill Stud & Dervers commented: "He is a proper horse. The dam's 1st foal is rated 96 & this chap is all speed - he did a very fast time (during the pre-sale breeze-up session) despite the going & he was not hard ridden at all. He is a lovely type for a big horse. He is for Qatar Racing & a trainer has not yet been decided. We have a few more to buy & we will decide upon trainers once they have all been bought. This horse will probably come back to Tweenhills in the interim."
