Zabeelionaire Wins Gr1 South Australian Derby

Monday, 7th May 2012

On the Australian track, NZ Cambridge Stud's multiple champion sire Zabeel (Sir Tristram-Lady Giselle, by Nureyev) added a Gr1 triumph (plus 42nd individual Gr1-winner & 142nd individual stakes-winner world-wide) when equal-favourite colt Zabeelionaire (Zabeel-Kisumu, by Carnegie) scored a half-length victory in the $500,000 Gr1 South Australian Derby (2500m) for 3YOs at Morphettville in Adelaide. Zabeelionaire (ridden by Damien Oliver for trainer Leon Corstens) defeated fellow colt Sabrage (Charge Forward-Galroof, by Maroof) & the gelding Westsouthwest (Darci Brahma-Southern Sunset by Polish Precedent). Zabeelionaire (a $250,000 yearling consigned by Yarraman Park Stud at the 2010 Inglis Easter Sale in Sydney) took his record to 3 wins & a runner-up from 11 starts for $467,780 earnings.
