Aust Horse-Of-Year Northerly Euthanased At 15
Australian 2003 Horse-Of-The-Year & 9-time Gr1-winner Northerly (Serheed-North Bell, by Bellewater) was euthanased in his paddock in Western Australia aged 15 following complications after a bout of colic. Northerly (bred at Oakland Park Stud in Busselton by Neville & Sue Duncan) was trained by Fred Kersley & recorded 19 wins (including the Caulfield Cup, Cox Plate twice, Australian Cup twice, Underwood Stakes twice, St George Stakes twice, Turnbull Stakes, Yalumba Stakes, Railway Stakes, Craiglee Stakes, Feehan Stakes, Carlyon Stakes, Peters Stakes, Goodwood Stakes & Aquanita Stakes) from 37 starts for $9,341,850 earnings. In 2010 Northerly was inducted into the Australian Racing Hall-Of-Fame.
