Malandrino Under Offer To Hong Kong
Trainer Murray Baker revealed "the chances of smart New Zealand 3YO gelding Malandrino (Darci Brahma-Staryn Glenn, by Montjeu) running at Doomben in Brisbane tomorrow hinge on the outcome of sales negotiations" to a Hong Kong buyer, reported theinformant.co.nz. Baker "brought Malandrino across the Tasman for next month's Queensland Derby & planned to launch his winter campaign in tomorrow's Gr 3 Rough Habit Plate (2000m)". Last start Malandrino (a NZ$95,000 yearling consigned by Blandford Lodge at the 2010 NZ Bloodstock Premier Sale at Karaka) won March's NZ Gr3 Manawatu Classic (2000m) at Awapuni to take his record to 3 wins & 2 runners-up from 7 starts. Baker said Malandrino "has passed his veterinary tests" (for Hong Kong) but "negotiations to finalise the deal are continuing" & summed up: "We're not sure if he's running in the Rough Habit. If he's sold he'll definitely come out & he won't run for me again. He's passed his vet tests but the deal isn't quite finalised yet. If he happens to run, he'll run very well. He's got some class. He won easy in the Manawatu Classic & it's a very good race. Four of the last seven winners in the race have gone on to win Gr1s."
