UK billionaire brothers David & Simon Reuben "who now control almost 4 out of every 10 race meetings in Britain have delivered an upbeat assessment of the sport's future" & affirmed "their faith in the long-term prospects of British racing" reported racingpost.com. The Reubens (who recently added Arena Leisure to a vast racecourse empire that already housed the Northern tracks) insisted they would be "good custodians" of their racecourses & stressed they had "no plans to close any of their venues". Arena operate 7 starts (including Doncaster, Lingfield & Windsor) while Northern owns 9 racecourses (most notably Chepstow, Newcastle & Uttoxeter). The brothers "whose estimated combined worth of £7 billion (A$10.5 billion) placed them 8th in the latest UK Sunday Times Rich List" also called on the sport's constituents to deliver "a more cohesive approach to the future strategic direction & structure of the British racing industry" & noted: "We fundamentally believe in the long-term prospects of British racing both at home & in the international market. We aim to take an active part in formulating policy & shaping the future of British horseracing. We will be good custodians of what we own."
