Crackerjack King Wins Italy Gr1 Presidente Della Repubblica

Monday, 14th May 2012

In Italy overnight, European champion 4-time Gr1-winning former Darley shuttler Shamardal  (Giant's Causeway-Helsinki, by Machiavellian) added a Gr1 triumph (& 6th individual Gr1-winner world-wide) when Irish-bred 4YO entire Crackerjack King (Shamardal-Claba Di San Jore, by Barathea) finished strongly from the rear of the field to score a 2.5-lengths victory in the €171,000 (A$212,000) Gr1 Premio Presidente Della Repubblica (2000m) for 4YOs & up at the Capannelle in Rome. Crackerjack King (ridden by Fabio Branca for trainer Stefano Botti) defeated UK-bred 5YO entire Afsare (Dubawi-Jumaireyah, by Fairy King) & UK-bred 6YO mare Quiza Quiza Quiza (Golden Snake-Quiz Chow, by Pelder). Crackerjack King took his record to 7 wins (also including 2011's Gr2 Derby Italiano over 2200m at the Capannelle & 2010's Listed Premio Campobello over 1800m at San Siro) from 8 starts for €457,300 (A$567,000) earnings. Australian Thoroughbred Bloodstock purchased a 50% interest in Crackerjack King last week & will now be reportedly transferred to trainer Marco Botti at Newmarket in England with a possible target Australia's Gr1 Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley in October.
