Johannesburg Adds UK Black-Type

Former Coolmore shuttler & champion 2YO Johannesburg (Hennessy-Myth, by Ogygian) added a UK black-type success when US-bred 5YO entire Red Jazz (Johannesburg-Now That's Jazz, by Sword Dance) scored by a neck in the £33,000 (A$50,000) Listed Spring Trophy Stakes (7 furlongs) at Haydock. Red Jazz (ridden by Michael Hills for trainer Charles Hills) defeated 4YO gelding Firebeam (Cadeaux Genereux-Firebelly, by Nicolotte) & Irish-bred 4YO gelding Majestic Myles (Majestic Missile-Gala Style, by Elnadim). Red Jazz was a US$37,000 weanling at the 2007 Keeneland November Sale & €95,000 (A$118,000) yearling at Ireland's 2008 Goffs Million Sale. Red Jazz took his overall record to 5 wins (also including 2010's Gr2 Challenge Stakes over 7 furlongs at Newmarket & Listed European Free Handicap over 7 furlongs at Newmarket) & 8 placings (including March's UAE Gr2 Godolphin Mile over 1600m at Meydan, plus 2011's Gr2 Lennox Stakes over 7 furlongs at Goodwood & UAE Gr2 Godolphin Mile over 1600m at Meydan, as well as 2010's Gr1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes over 8 furlongs at Ascot, Gr3 Criterion Stakes over 7 furlongs at Newmarket, Gr3 Jersey Stakes over 7 furlongs at Royal Ascot & Listed King Charles II Stakes over 7 furlongs at Newmarket, in addition to 2009's Gr2 July Stakes over 6 furlongs at Newmarket) from 19 starts for £347,811 (A$522,000) earnings.
