Lucayan Wins Gr1 French 2000 Guineas

In France overnight, Lucayan (Turtle Bowl-La Vltava, by Grand Lodge) prevailed in a 3-way photo-finish to the €450,000 (A$558,000) Gr1 Poule D'Essai Des Poulains-French 2000 Guineas (1600m) for 3YO colts at Longchamp in Paris. Lucayan (ridden by Stephane Pasquier for trainer Francois Rohaut) scored by a short-neck from front-running Veneto (Panis-Milanaise, by Marignan) with a further short-neck to Furner's Green (Dylan Thomas-Lady Icarus, by Rainbow Quest). Lucayan was initially a €17,000 (A$21,000) weanling at the 2009 Arqana December Sale & subsequently an €85,000 (A$105,000) 2YO at the 2011 Arqana May Sale. Overall he now has 3 wins (also including April's Listed Prix Aymeri De Mauleon over 1600m at Toulouse) & 2 placings (including March's Listed Prix Omnium II over 1600m at Saint-Cloud) from 5 starts for €308,430 (A$382,000) earnings.
