Monday, 14th May 2012

In the US, former NZ Glenmorgan Stud shuttler Rossini (Miswaki-Touch Of Greatness, by Hero's Honor) added a black-type success when 6YO mare Sakakawea (Rossini-Sarouka, by Beau's Eagle) scored a 1.5-lengths victory in the US$70,000 Listed Mamie Eisenhower Stakes (6 furlongs) for mares 4YO & up at Prairie Meadows in Iowa, to claim this race for the 3rd successive year. Sakakawea (ridden by Alex Birzer for trainer Ray Tracy) defeated 4YO mare Ginger Added (Added Edge-G U Ginger, by Fred Astaire) & 5YO mare Rico's Posse (Posse-Rico Ends Well, by Amerrico's Bullet). Sakakawea took her record to 10 wins (also including both 2011's & 2010's Listed Mamie Eisenhower Stakes over 6 furlongs at Prairie Meadows, plus 2009's Listed Bob Bryant Stakes over 6 furlongs at Prairie Meadows) & 4 runners-up from 20 starts for US$344,075 earnings.
