Unbeaten Black Caviar Wins Gr1 Goodwood

Monday, 14th May 2012

Australian 2011 Horse-Of-The-Year/Champion Sprinter & unbeaten 5YO mare Black Caviar (Bel Esprit-Helsinge, by Desert Sun) who was named World Champion Sprinter for the 2nd successive year in the 2011 World Thoroughbred Rankings, recorded her 11th Gr1 triumph & 21st successive win with a 1.25-lengths victory in the $500,000 Gr1 Goodwood (1200m) at Morphettville in Adelaide. Eliza Park Stud's multiple Gr1-winning sire Bel Esprit (Royal Academy-Bespoken, by Vain) added a Gr1 triumph as hot favourite Black Caviar (ridden by Luke Nolen for trainer Peter Moody) defeated 5YO gelding We're Gonna Rock (Fastnet Rock-Harrow, by Dehere) & 4YO gelding Stirling Grove (Mossman-Kalamata, by Desert Prince). Nolen told Sky Racing: "Armchair easy it was. She was never out of 2nd gear. She travelled strongly & I just kept her happy, simple as that. I could have really put the sword to them, but I'm not a punter; I don't worry about margins. As long as she bloody wins, I am happy." Black Caviar is now due to fly out of Australia in early June to contest the UK Gr1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes (6 furlongs) at Royal Ascot on June 23 & Moody commented: "No-one has ever given us any more for winning by big spaces. Everything has gone as expected. She's done a good job & she's where we want her; so as long as she pleases us over the next 3 weeks, we are on the plane to England." Overall Black Caviar (a $210,000 yearling consigned by Swettenham Stud at the 2008 Inglis Premier Sale in Melbourne) now has 21 successive wins (also including April's Gr1 Robert Sangster Stakes over 1200m at Morphettville, both February's Gr1 Lightning Stakes over 1000m at Flemington & Gr1 C.F.Orr Stakes over 1400m at Caulfield & January's Gr2 Australia Stakes over 1200m at Moonee Valley, plus 2011's Gr1 Patinack Farm Classic over 1200m at Flemington, Gr1 BTC Cup over 1200m at Doomben, Gr1 T.J.Smith Stakes over 1200m at Randwick, Gr1 William Reid Stakes over 1200m at Moonee Valley, Gr1 Newmarket Handicap over 1200m at Flemington, Gr1 Lightning Stakes over 1000m at Flemington, Gr2 Schweppes Stakes over 1200m at Moonee Valley & Gr2 Schillaci Stakes over 1000m at Caulfield, as well as 2010's Gr1 Patinack Farm Classic over 1200m at Flemington, Gr2 Schweppes Stakes over 1200m at Mooney Valley, Gr2 Schillaci Stakes over 1000m at Caulfield & Gr2 Australia Stakes over 1200m at Moonee Valley, in addition to 2009's Gr2 Danehill Stakes over 1200m at Flemington, Listed Arrow Training Services Plate over 1200m at Moonee Valley & Listed Blue Sapphire Stakes over 1200m at Caulfield) from 21 starts for $5,771,050 earnings.
