Whale Capture Wins Japan Gr1 Victoria Mile

In Japan yesterday, 4YO mare Whale Capture (Kurofune-Global Peace, by Sunday Silence) scored a half-length victory in the ¥188.2 million (A$2.129m) Gr1 Victoria Mile (1600m) for mare 4YOs & up at Tokyo. Whale Capture (ridden by Norihiro Yokoyama for trainer Kiyotaka Tanaka) defeated fellow 4YO mares Donau Blue (Deep Impact-Donna Blini, by Bertolini) ridden by Australian jockey Craig Williams & Marcellina (Deep Impact-Marbye, by Marju). Whale Capture took her record to 5 wins (also including 2011's Gr2 Sho Rose Stakes over 1800m at Hanshin & Gr3 Daily Hai Queen Cup over 1600m at Tokyo) & 5 placings (including 2011's Gr1 Shuka Sho over 2000m at Kyoto, Gr1 Yushun Himba-Oaks over 2400m at Tokyo & Gr1 Oka Sho-1000 Guineas over 1600m at Hanshin, plus 2010's Gr1 Juvenile Fillies over 1600m at Hanshin & Gr3 Sho Fantasy Stakes over 1400m at Kyoto) from 13 starts for ¥354.917 million (A$4.014m) earnings.
