Cecil Still Keen on Frankel-Black Caviar Clash Over UK Mile

Thursday, 17th May 2012

UK trainer Sir Henry Cecil, who trains unbeaten star Frankel (the world's highest-rated galloper in 2011), told the media he would "love" to see Frankel clash with unbeaten Australian sprinter Black Caviar (the world's 2nd-highest-rated galloper in 2011) in the Gr1 Sussex Stakes (8 furlongs) on August 1 at the Glorious Goodwood carnival (following Royal Ascot) in England. Frankel returns to the track for the 1st time since last October in this weekend's Gr1 Lockinge Stakes at Newbury, but Cecil noted: "I have been very impressed by Black Caviar & she's obviously very, very good & very consistent. I would love them to meet because I think it would be good for racing. It would be lovely to have champions from Australia & England taking on each other. I think the only race they could possibly meet would be the Sussex." Sussex Stakes sponsor QIPCO has previously announced the race will be worth £1 million (A$1.5m) if both horses run.
