On the UK track overnight, former Eureka Stud shuttler Piccolo (Warning-Woodwind, by Whistling Wind) added a group success when 6YO gelding Tiddliwinks (Piccolo-Card Games, by First Trump) prevailed in a 3-way photo-finish to the £106,000 (A$159,000) Gr2 Duke Of York Stakes (6 furlongs) at York to improve on his 3rd-placing in the same race last year. Tiddliwinks (ridden by Jamie Spencer for trainer Kevin Ryan) scored by a head from Irish-bred 6YO entire The Cheka (Xaar-Veiled Beauty, by Royal Academy) with a further neck to Irish-bred 5YO entire Society Rock (Rock Of Gibraltar-High Society, by Key Of Luck); Australian-bred 5YO gelding Soul (Commands-Marvilha, by Night Shift) who was previously trained by Peter Snowden & is now trained in Newmarket by Godolphin's Saeed Bin Suroor finished 6th. Tiddliwinks took his record to 7 wins & 4 placings (including 2011's Irish Gr3 Greenlands Stakes over 6 furlongs at The Curragh & the UK Gr2 Duke Of York Stakes over 6 furlongs at York) from 28 starts.
