1st Winner For Freshman Shuttler Astronomer Royal
Eliza Park Stud's Gr1 French 2000 Guineas-winning 8YO shuttle stallion Astronomer Royal (Danzig-Sheepscot, by Easy Goer) recorded his 1st winner when French-bred 2YO colt Sir Patrick Moore (Astronomer Royal-America Nova, by Verglas) scored on debut over 6 furlongs at Newbury in England for trainer Harry Dunlop. Sir Patrick Moore was a €16,000 (A$20,500) yearling at France's 2011 Arqana October Sale. His sire Astronomer Royal stands in the northern hemisphere at France's Haras de la Reboursiere et de Montaigu for €5,000 (A$6,400) & shuttles to Eliza Park, where is standing the upcoming southern season for $7,700. His oldest Australian progeny are yearlings that have sold up to $260,000. On the track, Astronomer Royal (from the final crop of 3-time US champion sire Danzig) won France's Gr1 Poule d'Essai des Poulains (French 2000 Guineas) over 1600m at Longchamp at just his 4th start & followed-up a month later with a 3rd-placing in the UK Gr1 St James's Palace Stakes (8 furlongs) at Royal Ascot; he finished his classic year as Champion 3YO Male Miler in France. The following year as a 4YO, he carried top-weight of 10 stone (63.5kg) to win Ireland's Gr3 Greenlands Stakes (6 furlongs) at the Curragh.
