Ato Wins Singapore Gr1 KrisFlyer Sprint

Also in Singapore yesterday, recently deceased former Coolmore shuttler & in recent years permanently Australian-based stallion Royal Academy (Nijinsky-Crimson Saint, by Crimson Satan) celebrated a Gr1 success when South African-bred 4YO entire Ato (Royal Academy-Another Legend, by Lyphards Wish) scored by 1.5-lengths in the S$1 million (A$800,000) Gr1 KrisFlyer International Sprint (1200m) at Kranji. Ato (ridden by Barend Vorster for trainer Patrick Shaw) defeated Australian-bred 3YO gelding Mr Big (Elusive Quality-Basmaat, by Danehill) & Irish-bred 7YO gelding Secret Asset (Clodovil-Skerray, by Soviet Star). Ato took his record to 7 wins (also including 2011's Gr3 Singapore Garden City Trophy over 1200m) & 8 placings (also including April's Gr3 Kranji Sprint over 1200m, March's Gr3 Merlion Trophy over 1200m, 2011's Gr2 E.W.Barker Trophy over 1400m, Gr3 Garden City Trophy over 1200m & Gr1 Singapore Guineas over 1600m) from 20 starts for $920,091 earnings.
