Moe Winter Meetings Transferred & Track Revamp Required
Racing Victoria & Country Racing Victoria's Infrastructure Sub-Committee "considered the ability of the Moe racetrack to currently host winter race meetings" & determined there are "concerns around the track's ability to race in heavy conditions & works are required to reinvigorate the racing surface". As a result, Moe's 2 winter meetings on June 5 & August 4 "will be transferred to other venues to allow the track time to improve prior to the club's scheduled spring meetings". A project plan for the revamp of the racing surface "will now be scoped for approval by the RV Board with any approved works to be undertaken after the Moe Cup meeting on October 18". RV chief operating officer Bernard Saundry explained: "The surface stability of the Moe track has been compromised by the proliferation of winter grass within the racing surface. This, coupled with excessive rainfall over recent months, has cast doubt over the track's ability to successfully complete a race meeting in heavy conditions. We will now consider the works required to ensure Moe is again capable of hosting race meetings 12 months of the year without concern of an abandonment in winter." RV advised training will continue at the Moe Racecourse during the lay-off from racing.
