Raspberries Wins Scone Cup

Monday, 21st May 2012

Last season's Australian Champion Sire, former Australian Racehorse-Of-The-Year & 11-time Gr1-winning World Champion Miler Lonhro (Octagonal-Shadea, by Straight Strike) added a black-type success when 4YO mare Raspberries (Lonhro-La Melba, by Grand Lodge) prevailed in a 3-way photo-finish to the $180,000 Listed Emirates Park Scone Cup (1600m) at Scone. Raspberries (ridden by Kerrin McEvoy for trainer Peter Snowden) scored by a long-neck from 6YO gelding Izababe (Zariz-Our Chickey Babe, by Spectacular Spy) with a further half-head to favoured 4YO gelding Lightinthenite (Galileo-Tiffin, by Grand Lodge). Raspberries took her record to 7 wins (also including March's Gr3 PDF Food Services Stakes over 1400m at Flemington & 2011's Gr3 Patinack Farm Cameron Handicap over 1500m at Newcastle) & 5 placings (including March's Gr2 Sunline Stakes over 1600m at Moonee Valley & 2011's Gr3 Patinack Farm Adrian Knox Stakes over 2000m at Randwick) from 19 starts for $478,025 earnings.
