Santic Sells 44% Of Makybe Farm

Wednesday, 23rd May 2012

Makybe Racing & Breeding owners Tony & Deslee Santic confirmed they have sold 1400-acres of their 3200-acre property on the Barwon River at Gnawarre in Victoria "as part of the Makybe strategic business plan implemented 3 years ago . . . . to increase productivity for the operation". Makybe Racing & Breeding "will continue to breed quality bloodstock on their property & maintain a strong racing team", but will "no longer stand stallions & will consign their yearlings to be presented on their behalf at the major yearling sales". Tony Santic summed up: "Makybe will be a boutique operation managing our own bloodstock, as opposed to commercially offering all services of a stallion farm. We will be reducing our broodmare portfolio over the next 12 months & will continue to reinvest in quality bloodstock to race & breed from." An announcement in relation to resident stallion Purrealist & shuttle stallion Street Hero "will be released in coming weeks", while the Santics "will retain their shareholding in Purrealist".
