Royal Ascot Officials Predict Black Caviar Sell-Out
In the UK, officials at Ascot are predicting the initial appearance on a British track by unbeaten Australian 5YO mare Black Caviar (Bel Esprit-Helsinge, by Desert Sun) in the Gr1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes (6 furlongs on June 19) will trigger the 1st-ever sell-out on the Saturday of the Royal carnival. Ascot's head of communications & international racing Nick Smith told The Daily Telegraph in London: "We have a sell-out 80,000 capacity for Ascot & that may well be reached. Also, there is the Heath that could be used. . . . . We have a reciprocal arrangement with the Victoria Racing Club. This enables their members to apply for Royal Enclosure badges without having to go through Australia House in London, which is the normal protocol. Normally that runs to a handful of applications, but this year we have had literally hundreds. It is staggering. Also we are seeing many Australian tourists purchasing Grandstand tickets for the Saturday."
