US Maryland 2YOs Final Average Up 14%
Overall at the conclusion of the 2-day Fasig-Tipton Midlantic 2YOs-In-Training Sale, 313 lots sold for US$16,871,000 (up 4.1% on last year's 343 sold for US$16,211,100). The final average of US$53,901 was up 14% (last year US$47,263) & the final median of US$28,000 was up 12% (last year US$25,000). The final clearance rate was 75.6% (last year 81.9%). The sale "turned in a strong performance, enjoying a business boost from an improving thoroughbred market overall & slots-rich tracks nearby" summed up bloodhorse.com. Fasig-Tipton Midlantic sales director Paget Bennett added: "We had a good crowd both days & we feel great. There was a lot of buzz going on about this sale. We hoped the buzz that was out there played true & we were fortunate it did. . . . . There is so much hype going on with the New York program (after the opening of a video lottery terminal casino at Aqueduct) that you would have to say it had a big impact. The New York-breds here were a plus."
