VRC Responds To TROA Statement

Thursday, 24th May 2012

In response to the statement issued by TROA, VRC CEO Dale Monteith confirmed that overall prizemoney offered next season at Flemington will increase over this season’s levels. “While budgets for next season are currently being finalised and are yet to be ratified by the VRC Board, we are committed to remaining Australia’s most lucrative racing venue for owners, trainers and jockeys, and prizemoney will increase next season,” Monteith said. “The VRC contributes more in prizemoney top-ups - the amounts contributed directly by the club over and above industry distributions from the Tabcorp joint venture – than all other Victorian clubs combined, and we will continue to do so next season.” According to Monteith, "the VRC has paid more than $85 million from season 1994/95 through to 2010/11 in top-ups over and above industry distributions, of which $72.25 million went to owners, $8.5 million to trainers and $4.25 million to jockeys, and will inject millions more in 2012/13."
