NZ Horse-Of-Year Jimmy Choux To Stand At Rich Hill

Friday, 25th May 2012

NZ Rich Hill studmaster John Thompson announced the farm & Nearco Stud principal Greg Tomlinson have "reached an agreement" with owner-breeders Richard & Liz Wood for 5-time Gr1-winning 4YO stallion & reigning New Zealand Horse-Of-The Year Jimmy Choux (Thorn Park-Cierzo, by Centaine) to begin his career at the Walton operation on the outskirts of Matamata at an initial service fee of NZ$10,000+GST. Thompson noted: "We weren't originally planning to have a new stallion, but the decision by Sir Percy's English owners to rest him from shuttle duty this year coincided with the retirement of Jimmy Choux. A horse with his looks, racetrack ability & pedigree doesn't come on the market very often & sometimes when they do, you have to act to secure such a stallion prospect." Overall Jimmy Choux recorded 12 wins (including 2011's Gr1 NZB Insurance Spring Classic over 2040m at Hastings, NZ Gr1 Windsor Park Plate over 1600m at Hastings, Gr1 Rosehill Guineas over 2000m at Rosehill, Gr1 New Zealand Derby over 2400m at Ellerslie, NZ Gr3 Waikato Guineas over 2000m at Te Rapa & NZ Gr3 Wellington Stakes over 1600m at Trentham, plus 2010's Gr1 New Zealand 2000 Guineas over 1600m at Riccarton Park, Gr2 NZB Insurance Hawke's Bay Guineas over 1400m at Hastings, NZ Gr2 Westbury Stud Wakefield Challenge Stakes over 1200m at Trentham & NZ Gr2 Great Northern Guineas over 1600m at Ellerslie) & 8 placings (including 2011's Gr1 W.S.Cox Plate over 2040m at Moonee Valley & NZ Gr1 Makfi Challenge Stakes over 1400m at Hastings, plus 2010's NZ Gr1 Manawatu Sires Produce Stakes over 1400m at Awapuni, NZ Gr1 Auckland Diamond Stakes over 1200m at Ellerslie & NZ Listed Wanganui Guineas over 1340m, plus 2009's NZ Listed Weetwood Grange Stakes over 1100m at Te Rapa) from 26 starts for NZ$3,626,763 earnings.
