Aust-Bred Liberator Wins HK Gr1 Champions & Chater Cup

In Hong Kong yesterday, former 2-time Australian champion sire Encosta de Lago (Fairy King-Shoal Creek, by Star Way) added a Gr1 victory when Australian-bred 4YO gelding Liberator (Encosta de Lago-Miss Helga, by Alzao) scored a 1.5-lengths victory in the HK$8 million (A$1m) Gr1 Champions & Chater Cup (1800m) at Sha Tin. Liberator (ridden by Weichong Marwing for trainer David Ferraris) defeated New Zealand-bred 5YO gelding Ambitious Dragon (Pins-Golden Gamble, by Oregon) & fellow 4YO gelding Dominant (Cacique-Es Que, by Inchinor). Liberator (a NZ$360,000 yearling consigned at the 2009 NZ Bloodstock Premier Sale at Karaka) took his record to 2 wins & a placing from 6 starts.
